The next generation of VR on PlayStation 5! Sony have announced they are working on the next generation of their PSVR headset.

The original PlayStation VR headset was released over 4 years ago, which is hard to believe! The original PSVR for the PS4 changed the way some games were played. Although not everyone jumped straight into VR gaming it forged a committed fan base who loved the experience that it gave. The PSVR provided new ways for developers to think about how they could create games, and we ended up with some truly amazing ones including the likes of Astro Bot: Rescue Mission, Tetris Effect, Blood & Truth, Moss, Beat Saber, and Resident Evil 7 biohazard.
On February 23rd, 2021 Sony confirmed they are indeed working on the next iteration of the PlayStation VR for the PS5. They promise gamers will “will feel an even greater sense of presence and become even more immersed in their game worlds once they put on the new headset”.
One of the main points they spoke about is the new VR controller they are working on, and how it will include some of the key features found in the much-praised PS5 DualSense controller. We are guessing haptic feedback and adaptive triggers will play a big part in the controller and add to the immersion of the VR experience.
Sony also confirmed that there is still a lot of development to undertake, and that the headset won’t be launching in 2021 (maybe 2022?). It is understood that early development units are starting to make their way to development teams, and they will no doubt give Sony feedback on the units.
We will try to keep this page updated once further information has been confirmed, but all we can say is we can’t wait to see what Sony comes up with, and what technology they pack in to the PSVR 2!
